Why Now?

One of the questions I have been asked over and over again is why I have waiting until now to do something about Ron Hickman. First and foremost, I never wanted my late husband to be used as political mud to sling from one candidate to another. I'm not saying it would have, but it might have and that was not a chance I was willing to take. This is about Scott's life and his devotion to community service, and Ron Hickman's crappy treatment of our family since Scott was killed. Once again, Ron Hickman has NEVER called to check on Tanner. Not once in five years. Now that Tanner has read the letter (had no choice thanks to Ron Hickman), he wants nothing to do with the man other than to see justice served on him, and that includes going before a grand jury to answer why he used his OFFICIAL CAPACITY to influence the parole board. Tanner is now 14 years old and wiser than most 50 year olds because of all he has been through.

I also tried to report Scott's killer to his parole officer once I had a copy of his sworn testimony stating he has drank since being released from prison. It never occurred to me to ask my attorney to ask him this question. We just assumed he was following his probation rules and would never admit anything if he wasn't. Well, there were some smart jurors who wanted to know, and he testified under oath that he had been drinking since being released from prison. THAT IS A VIOLATION! When I reported it to his parole officer, I was treated like the criminal and told that they would have to catch him violating his parole and it was basically none of my business. EXCUSE ME???? I'm the victim of the crime. It is my business, and according to their own rules they are required to start an investigation. And no, they don't have to "catch him". Someone can phone in a tip or whatever. I would say that testifying under oath that you had violated your parole was sufficient enough. Unfortunately, I cannot get anyone from the parole department to start an investigation.
